Whitgreave Primary School
What was needed?
The Brief
The Red Monkey team was invited out to Whitgreave Primary School where they met assistant head teacher Jody Dingley to discuss the EYFS outdoor play space. The area in question was a large space and was quite under utilised with outdated equipment. The school had a vision in mind that would offer the children a wider variety of imaginative and developmental learning chances.
The challenge was that the natural landscaped area was quite sloped, and the school wanted to enhance this feature instead of levelling it out.
What we did
The Result
After the initial meeting with Jody where there dream outdoor space was discussed and wish list of products was covered, the Red Monkey Team came out with a design that met the vision and standards of the school.
To incorporate the natural slope into the overall aesthetic of the area, small mounds were created throughout. This ended up lending to the vision of creating their very own EYFS world where the children could extend their imaginations not only to the equipment but also to the landscape.
The equipment that was included was chosen to give the children enough of a challenge, while also giving them enough open space for free flow play as well. The natural sensory garden offers a quiet place for the children to enjoy a book or work on their gardening and nature skills while the messy play area will allow exploration of imagination and examination of bugs and slugs!

The Feedback
Our EYFS playground area was looking a little tired and dated, as a team we felt a redesign could offer our children a wider range of learning and development experiences and produced a list of all of the items we wanted in our ‘dream outdoor space’.
We contacted Red Monkey and met with Richard who came out to the school and discussed our vision, his enthusiasm was evident from that initial meeting and his final design did not fail to impress. Red Monkey used their expertise to utilise the space we had in the very best way and also incorporated all of the areas we felt our children needed and more besides, we certainly got our dream space!
The transformation is absolutely out of this world! The entire project has been finished to a very high standard. The children, staff and parents all love the final design. Thank you Red Monkey.
