Cumnor House wanted an outdoor space that would inspire imagination, encourage physical development and give children the freedom to explore play in their own way.
Using natural materials and thoughtful design, we created a varied playground with opportunities for climbing, balancing, den building, active play and quiet reflection. Each area encourages children to challenge themselves, build confidence and develop new skills through play.
More than just a playground, the space provides an environment for adventure, creativity and outdoor learning throughout the year.
The existing outdoor space offered limited opportunities for adventurous and imaginative play. We transformed it into a vibrant, multi-functional playground that makes the most of the large space, creating opportunities for children to climb, balance, explore and play creatively.
Designed to encourage physical activity, confidence and curiosity, the new space provides a variety of experiences that support different types of play. From active challenges, imaginative adventures to quiet zones and messy areas, every element helps create an outdoor environment where children can explore, discover and develop through play.
What was once blank outdoor space has been transformed into a play space full of character, movement and discovery. Bespoke timber structures now weave through the space, creating different levels, routes and opportunities for children to play in their own way.
From climbing and balancing to imaginative roleplay and quiet zones, each area connects to the next, encouraging children to move, explore and create their own adventures. Natural materials and thoughtful design help the outdoor space feel like a part of its surroundings, rather than simply a collection of play equipment.
The finished space is designed to grow with the children who use it, offering something different each time they step outside and leaving plenty of room for imagination to take the lead.
